Financial Aid

Financial Aid FAQs

What percentage of students receive financial aid?

Twenty percent of the student body receives financial aid.

When should I apply for financial aid?

Families must notify The Studio School of their interest in applying for financial aid when they apply for admission.

Who is eligible?

Financial Aid is offered to families with children applying to Kindergarten and above, based on financial need and the availability of funds. Twenty percent of the student body receives financial assistance. The School strives to maintain from year to year a level of aid that is commensurate with each family’s need.

Are there merit scholarships?

In 2009 The Studio School established the Virginia O’Hanlon Scholarship Fund to begin to raise funds for scholarships for students, based on both need and merit.

How is need defined?

We partner with TADS, a company that collects information from applicants and makes recommendations to the Admission Office regarding the amount of financial aid to be granted to families. TADS makes a weighted recommendation for distribution of our financial aid budget based on each family’s situation. The Financial Aid Committee reviews this recommendation and makes final decisions based on financial need and availability of funds.

Where can I find the forms required to apply for financial aid?

The Financial Aid application form is available at

Will a request for financial support have any impact on an admission decision? Is it a need-blind admission policy?

Few independent schools can afford a genuine need-blind policy. The Studio School makes the initial admission decision based solely on a candidate’s qualifications and without regard to ability to pay. If a greater number of qualified applicants require aid than the School can support, final decisions will be made and those applicants that we wish to accept, but do not have the funds for, will be placed on the wait list.

Your confidentiality is respected.

For both new and returning students, financial aid information is confidential and shared only with the Admissions Office, Financial Aid Committee, Business Manager, and Head of School.
