The Studio School

Welcome from the Head of School

Dear Parents,
Janet C. Rotter
Janet C. Rotter
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to The Studio School. Being Head of School for the past thirty-nine years, I am continually inspired to see the profound ways The Studio School Approach and the How-to-Learn Curriculum deepen the education of our students, teachers, and parents.

As you get to know us, you will notice the quality of care and attention with which Studio teachers engage children in our curriculum, together fostering the joy of inquiry and imagination, developing a strong work ethic, expanding knowledge, and embracing academic excellence.

A Studio education is from the inside out, and cultivates the values of character, scholarship, and balance. The work of raising thoughtful and compassionate children is complex. In our fast-paced and demanding world, we give students the invaluable gift of childhood—ample space and time to develop into people who are authentic and have a sense of self, with an educational foundation that is timely and timeless.

We believe that true learning can’t be measured; how children live their lives is the essence of what they have learned. Beyond the sharing of knowledge and acquisition of skills, at Studio we view education as a daily laboratory for living. Teaching and learning about all people, places, ideas, and feelings from many perspectives guides our students to know who they are, how they relate in a group, and that they are an important part of society. It is through our determination and persistence that civilization moves forward in positive and constructive ways as we transcend darkness into light, with tolerance and equity.

I invite you to explore our school, where we empower children to think originally, trust their intuitive responses, and go forth into the larger world with confidence in themselves, full of hope about their dreams and for humankind, and courage to shape the world we inhabit.

Sincerely,

Janet C. Rotter,
Head of School
