Every December, we honor the legacy of Virginia with a joyous celebration with students and alumni, family and friends, as well as many members of Virginia O’Hanlon’s extended family and other celebrated guests. The dramatic reading of Virginia’s letter and Francis Pharcellus Church’s renowned editorial brings new questions and ideas for us to contemplate and reflect on, along with the excitement of who will play Virginia and Mr. Church each year. Filling the school, where a timeless story began, one can hear the beautiful voices of our chorus, the smells of hot mulled cider, and feel the generous spirit of all, bringing books for others in need.
We leave the celebration, each time, especially remembering Francis Pharcellus Church’s lasting belief in “the eternal light with which childhood fills the world…” and strive to nurture that light.
